The Wedding Makeover: Month One

Hi everyone! It’s Cassidy, and I’m back with my very first update for my fitness journey. It’s been quite a month — there were a lot of adjustments, tears, joy, and growth. You might have concluded from the last blog that I’ve had some trouble being consistent with my fitness. To reiterate, I’ve been with Travis for a little over a year and I have gone back and forth between his Individual Design program and Bootcamp. The reason why I say back and forth is because when I started a program, I would always fizzle out — I’d stop doing the workouts and would ultimately remove myself from the program. I’m happy to say that a month in, I’m still here and I’m staying consistent! (That’s a big win for me)

When I began in August, I felt pretty weak to be honest. I was lifting 15lb max for dumbbells and 12kg kettlebells. I would finish my workouts and be absolutely dead even after using such small weights. The next days I would be so sore that every movement was a chore, and I thought to myself “I’m not sure how long I can do this.” I even had a couple days where I had to take longer pauses between sets — I was seeing stars I was so worn out (you can ask Travis to confirm). The one thing, though, that has kept me motivated is that wedding date and the desire to feel and see a change within myself. I am now lifting up to 35lb dumbbells and 18kg kettlebells!

So, now that I’ve gotten the working out portion of this journey down, it’s time to sort out the area that needs the most work — eating. I am not the best at sticking to a healthy eating style if I’m being honest. I’m not eating bags of sweets, chips, and soda every day, but I am eating more than I need to and not focusing on areas such as protein. I usually just eat whatever is available around the house or head out to my favorite fast food places to get a meal. That being said, it’s been quite hard to adjust to this new approach to eating. Travis has helped me determine what my body needs for fuel while staying on track to meet my goals.

My most recent body scan indicated that I didn’t lose weight, but gained some. This is not necessarily the worst news because I’ve gained a pound of muscle! This result is showing me that the consistent workouts are working and that I’m getting stronger. Now, on the other hand, I’ve gained quite a few pounds since my last blog. I have to admit, I was pretty hard on myself after this scan — I’ve been working so hard in the workouts and I fully expected to lose quite a bit of weight. It was a tough pill to swallow walking out of the studio with that result and part of me thought, “I really am never going to lose the weight.” I needed to quickly shut that down. With the encouragement from my parents and Travis, I was able to overcome the negative thoughts and find motivation to keep going harder. The truth, I’m not seeing the changes because I haven’t been prioritizing the nutrition side of this. So, this month I am going hard on the workouts AND the nutrition! Any tips and advice is definitely appreciated! Hoping to have some great news in my next post.

September InBody scan results: weight 186.1 lb, skeletal muscle mass 69.7 lb, body fat percentage 33.6%
